East of Scotland Success at Golf Tourism Oscars

8th November 2012

The Scottish golf tourism industry’s top achievers have been recognised at a dazzling awards ceremony held in Edinburgh. The annual event from leading industry organisation Golf Tourism Scotland is widely regarded as the ‘Oscars of the golfing world’ and welcomes attendees from the US and Europe.

Hosted by Marriott Dalmahoy, this year a record 19 awards were handed out including for the first time The Gold Standard Award for outstanding work promoting golf tourism received by Allan Minto from Golf East Lothian.

This year’s Young Industry Person Award winner was Kirsty Martin from The Village at Machrihanish Dunes who really impressed the GTS awards interview panel with her enthusiasm and dedication to her role within the industry. Recognising the recent accolades received by two GTS members, the organising committee this year honoured Fairmont St Andrews Golf Resort and Dundonald Links Ayrshire for their tireless work towards sustainable golf and carbon reduction.

“This year’s awards reflect a busy year for Scottish Golf which whilst facing up to the most challenging weather conditions in over 100 years has not had its spirits dampened. Tonight’s awards are a very fitting culmination to an outstanding year of sport throughout the UK. From Tour de France victory, the triumphs of our Olympians, a very Scottish tennis Grand Slam and the culmination of it all in the most amazing Ryder Cup result in many years; the people in Scotland’s Golf industry tonight showcase the breadth and depth of its talent and unique products” noted GTS chairman Lee Derrick.
