Fife gearing up for drive to attract golf visitors

29th December 2011

The Fife Golf Partnership sees a major commitment between Fife Council, St Andrews Links Trust, St Andrews Golf Development Group, First in Fife Golf pass, Links with History and Elmwood College to step up the marketing of Fife and its various courses.

Fifty hotels, golf courses and resorts, the Scottish Incoming Golf Tour Operators Association (SIGTOA) and Golf Tourism Scotland have also already committed to support the initiative, which will be led by the private sector, although there will be some council and other public funding.

Keith Winter, head of enterprise, planning and protective services at the council and interim chair of the Fife partnership, said the agreement aims to ensure Fife keeps its share of golf visitors and value.

He said: “Fife has a superb range of courses for every type of player, at every price.

“With the raft of golf tourism awards collected in just the past couple of weeks, the features on Eurosport broadcast to 59 countries, and the RICOH Women’s British Open in 2013 and The Open Championship in 2015, we have a fantastic international showcase for Fife golf and the partnership aims to capitalise on this very strong position.”

A highlight of the recent launch event was the opportunity to see the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) trophy which was brought back to Fife this week after the announcement that the Kingdom has been named its ‘Golf Destination of the Year – Europe 2012’.
