Two-time Major Champion John Daly has confirmed he will play in the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play at Murcar Links Golf Club, in Aberdeen, from July 30 – August 2.
Daly famously won the 1991 US PGA Championship after scraping into the event having been the ninth reserve, and four years later he triumphed in The Open Championship at St Andrews.
He is renowned for his long hitting off the tee, earning him the nickname “Long John”, and remains one of the most charismatic golfers in the game.
He said: “I am really excited to be playing Paul’s inaugural European Tour event. I love match play and it is a format of the game that we do not get to play enough of on tour.
“I really appreciate Paul for having me in his tournament. I am looking forward to a week in Aberdeen and hopefully playing really well in front of all the fans."
Lawrie said: “I am delighted that John will be playing and look forward to welcoming him at Murcar Links Golf Club. His grip-it-and-rip approach to golf and life has enthralled fans from around the globe for many years.
“I don’t think many of the players will fancy going up against him. His attacking style will give him plenty of birdie opportunities and he will definitely be one to watch.”
Sixty-four players will go up against each other in a straight knockout match play format, battling it out for the €1million prize fund.
